I eat paint

Posted on Thursday, March 14, 2013

Ok so I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this, but while I paint I am constantly licking my paintbrush... not because I think it tastes good but because it's just so convenient! Also if I dip the paintbrush into the jar of water sometimes I get it way too wet and then I have to dry it off and there goes all the paint so licking it adds just the right amount of moisture.. haha. SO don't be surprised if I die at an early age because of paint toxins or something along those lines. That'd be a silly way of dying. I'd be known as the weird artist who died because she ate her paint. At least I didn't chop my ear off. That is more badass I suppose.
Speaking of eating I'm craving some mangos. Is it mango season yet? I need a mango.

Details

Posted on Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Details are so important when it comes to drawing. Well depends on what you are drawing. I enjoy drawing a lot of realistic subjects so details definitely come in handy. Actually details are important no matter what type of artwork you are creating!
I'm the type of person that lives in their own little world and zones out 90 % of the time so I tend to be quite oblivious to what goes on around me (not proud of that by the way.) But when I snap out of it and really put my focus on a face.. oh boy can I see details. I see every little flaw your face carries. Every little open pore. Every little peach hair. Every freckle and wrinkle. Although it's helpful when I'm drawing, it's not so fun when I have to look in the mirror..

Lonely art days

Posted on Monday, March 11, 2013

I remember when I was little I used to draw a lot of rabbits wearing clothes and doing human type things.

This is absolutely irrelevant but for some  reason that memory just popped up in my head so I decided to type it out..
So today will be another day of hiding in my cave and creating artwork! I love burning incense and candles while I'm working but my mother hates the smell. She thinks it's tobacco and now she is worried about me. Can you believe that? How silly. Oh and she also thinks I'm a drug dealer. HA! I wouldn't be broke right now if I was one mother.

"I would go out tonight but I haven't got a stitch to wear.."

I like hiding in my room, I call it my cave. Hi my name is Emilia and social interaction makes me anxious.
Point being, this is how I spend my weekend nights.. actually almost every night. I'm sure there is a bunch of you that hide in your rooms too, if you do we can now internet bond. Anyways I don't know what I'm talking about so I'll talk about that painting. It is a commission I am starting for a friend of mine. My goal is to finish this in 2 weeks, ah! The photo she gave me to use is a bit blurry so wish me luck! Who ever you are..

The Girl with the Bird

I really wanted to practice using prisma colored pencils. Those colored pencils are my children. They are so amazing and soft.. ahh just plain beautiful pencils! Any who, I do use photo references for my drawings. I never fully copy them unless it's for a commissions. I just like to take bits and pieces from different drawings. I probably used about 10 different pictures for this drawing and just messed around until I was happy with the drawing. Maybe one day if I'm at a Da Vinci status I'll be able to draw without having to use photo references! Ha!
My story for this girl is that she is some whack job who speaks to birds, moths and butterflies.. Just kidding I don't really know what her story is. You can interpret that yourself.

Abuelitos

Rest in peace abuelito. Everyone says I received my artistic genes from him. He made amazing sculptures along with being an awesome architect. I am honored that I was able to meet him and spend time with him while watching him work on his works of art. Oh and my abuelita is just the sweetest! I just wanted to pinch her cheeks and put her in my pocket. Okay so enough ranting about my grandparents, I'm off to paint some more!
